SUMMARY
To be the R&D Microbiology team leader.  To plan, lead and manage microbiology activities in support of product development.  Including test method development, method and product validation, and stability testing. In addition, a vital and exciting part of the role will be to lead and be responsible for the research and development of novel methods to support product performance claims substantiation.
SCOPE / DIMENSIONS OF ROLE
The R&D Microbiology team leader is responsible for the overall safety of the team, and they will be managing the daily operations of the R&D team (2-3 people).
They will take responsibility for all aspects of the R&D team laboratory, including but not limited to: personnel, facilities, equipment, systems and support services necessary to manage and perform laboratory activities.  They will also be the key "go to" SME for the category, for project work, including data interpretation & conclusion, report creation and document approvals.
This role wider scope than doing MQ and PET testing for projects. A significant amount of time will focus on research for novel methods and data generation to support product performance claims.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES,  ACCOUNTABILITIES  and EXPERIANCE
Lead the team.  Inspire, motivate, plan, direct and lead the operation of R&D Microbiology function.
Be responsible for recruiting, resource planning, training and development of staff.
Partner the formulation and analytical team in the running and delivery of all the R&D category projects.
Ensure the competencies of all staff operate equipment, perform tests, evaluate result are met the Laboratory quality policy and international standard.
Develop and validate new test methods in support of New Product Development. (MQ and PET)
Research and Develop new methods on product performance - experience of lactobacilli and vaginal microbiome would be beneficial.  
Ensure all equipment follows IQ/OQ/PQ and calibrated following aligned schedules.
Co-responsible for housekeeping, cleanliness and safety in the microbiological laboratory.
Accountable for ensuring laboratory investigations are thorough and accurate. Lead the review and conclusion of any Out of Specification (OOS) and Out Of Trend (OOT) results, in line with global standards and any local SOPs
Responsible to maintain biosafety and biosecurity in Microbiological laboratory.
Review and/or approve documents related to the Laboratory operation (e.g. test method, standard operational procedure, test report, protocol etc.).
Support product development documentation creation, for example report writing and approval.
Creation and Approval of certificate of analysis documentation.
To lead the department budget. Ensure accurate projection and spend is carried out to aligned plan.
Lead the R&D SWB Micro CAPEX.
Develop and maintain scientific skills and awareness of current scientific areas relevant to the company through training (internal and external) and background reading.
To share best practice in analytical techniques/processes with other RB sites

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Education
BSc or higher degree (MSc or PhD) in Microbiology. A PhD in the filed of Lactobacilli would be an asset.
Working knowledge and experience of FMCG product development would be beneficial.
Experiences
Worked in an ISO9001/13485/17025/GLP, and/or GMP laboratory environment is preferred.
Line management/supervisory experience is beneficial. The successful candidate will be able to inspire and motivate a team.
Knowledge and experience in the field of vaginal microbiome is an advantage.
Competencies Required (knowledge, skill, training)
Good knowledge and understanding of GMP.
Good IT skills relating to the equipment used by the Laboratory
Good command of English.
Report writing.
Any experience in project management software (eg. MS Project) is an advantage.
